Freezing in NYC

images-1Remember how I was totally annoyed with the fact that it was 90 degrees in LA, and I still had not worn any of my new Fall clothes? Well I take that sentiment back. I take any and all such sentiments back. I am currently in NYC, my previous hometown, and am literally freezing my pants off. It is the coldest day of the season so far at 35 degrees and the wind chill is making it feel like the teens. I have work to do here, hence my trip on almost zero notice, and I managed to pack some very warm items for the next few days– all of which were my staples last year when I had to adapt to this bitter chill each day. However now, in the halcyon days of warmth and palm trees in Los Angeles, I think I have been drugged into a state of cold aversion whereby my newly Californian body simply refuses to adapt to these frigid temps, as if on principle. So, no matter how bundled up I am in wool and mittens and hats, I am freezing and miserable and missing LA. Who knew?!

Holiday Gifts Under $100

Click here to view my segment in Philadelphia this past week highlighting my top picks for little luxury gifts under $100. Disclaimer: This segment marks the first and last time I let someone else touch up my makeup on set. Way too much eye shadow and some sort of streaky blush thing going on here….

Indian Summer

images1What do you do when you have a closet full of winter clothes (some with their tags still on), and it is 90 degrees outside? I am presently asking this question each morning as I struggle to determine what outfit I am going to put on. I was so completely unaware that there is this total Indian Summer thing that happens in mid-November here in LA. I am also so confused about what I purchased for fall vs. what I should have bought (more sundresses and tanks apparently.) I am so over my summer clothes that I cannot even bring myself to wear them anymore. I have resorted to culling through last summer’s items just to find something fresh and “new.” I am so missing that chill of Fall and the need for a coat or even a light jacket. I want to feel the holidays as they approach based solely on the weather. I am so missing this time of year in New York. I traveled to the East Coast last week and spent several days in Philadelphia. I can tell that I have already because somewhat of a cool weather weakling. I did not pack the right things and was just plain cold most of the time. But I can’t say I don’t love that feeling of wanting to cozy up and keep warm with someone you love :)

F&F Gifting

A friend and beautybaby reader sent me the best gift ever last week- the Sephora Friends and Family discount code. She knows me and my obsession with cosmetics and has been checking in to see what I am scoping out at sephora.com. I have to admit that I am totally vexed by what to purchase right now. I have been trying so hard not to fall in love with anything new so that I don’t spend tons of money on cosmetics right now. One step in this process is for me to stay out of Sephora, because a step inside this beauty mecca almost immediately spurs a three figure purchase of some kind. But given my new discount, I HAVE to select something so as not to let this go to waste. I am thinking about the Sephora Brand Shaping Disk with highlighter, powder and bronzer. It is also incredibly highly rated. I am also considering a re-up on my Bare Escentuals powder because this line is always my back-up staple and, as I often bemoan, I love the look of this when freshy applied. I just wish it had a hair more staying power. Considering the fact that I am alone in a hotel room right now with nothing but my laptop, this Sephora order could get dangerous. I will keep you posted.

The Many Ways Loehmann’s Rocks

imagesLoehmann’s literally rocks. I live for it. There is no other spot on earth where you can find such special items for such incredible bargains. I was over by the Beverly Center today and decided to stop into the Loehmann’s that is right across the street. (I physically cannot be that close to this store without at least popping my head in.) Of course I was immediately dying over the fact that all of the Back Room (Euro designer) items were on sale- like ridiculous close-out sales. I also noticed a light crowd milling through the racks and immediately went into defensive shopper mode. Panicing slightly, I tore over to the “BR” and staked my claim on an awesome brocade mini-dress that I will wear during the holidays and an incredible Reyes mini coat which will be perfect for upcoming travels. Also, I found a wonderfully perfect pair of black Tahari boots with just the right heel and rounded tow. I have been on the hunt for months for the perfect boot– I am hugely picky about this. I should have known that my beloved designer discounter would come through for me in a pinch!
